New Beginnings!!!

Okay, so I started my new job yesterday and so far, so good. The job is about 42 miles away so the drive is about 45min to an hour ( depending on if i feel like a speed demon or not)..usually I speed so it ain't too bad...lol...There are about 25 or so employees ( only 4 guys) and they all seem very nice...my immediate boss is really nice, I have spent the last 2 days with her doing orientation and learning about all of the rules and regulations ( I didn;t realize that medical writing was so intense)....anyways, I work directly with another writer and a head writer ( NO Katie he doesn't write on or with his head!!!) He is the senior writer ( no katie, is isn;t that old)...hee hee...the senior writer, chris, is my boss as far as content of what I write but everything else goes through my division manager , Lynn ( the nice one I mentioned above). It's kinda like a little family there. Unlike my last job, they won't steal ur food and have general condiments for all to use///at least I don't think they will steal my food....every friday is "jean day"...whoo hoo that's my favorite thing..the dress is business casual so getting clothes won't be too expensive...my first project is to write a 40 page supplement on Parkinson's Disease that will go into a journal on disease management...the supplement is based on a series of lectures that occured at a conference...I had to watch the talks today, and boy were they boring...the guy who spoke was monotone and just plain sucked...but writing will be more interesting (I HOPE!!!)...anyways, it's all good for now...I just have to get uo early (6 a.m.) --remember I don;t have kids and have been getting up whenever I want (around 10 or 11 am) for the past 7 years..so the adjusting will be a little tough..I am already going to bed at like 930 at night..that's unheard of for me...usually I don't go to bed until at least midnight and sometimes not until like 2 or 3 in the morning..I guess I won;t be doing that any time soon...

Oh yeah....giblet hanging day was great...dad made a mean prime rib and then I went to my friends house for pie...she had like 6 pies but my fav was one another girl brought...it was a pumkin pecan pie...it had a graham cracker crust, then a pumkin/cool whip mousse type filling, followed by a fat layer of cool whip, then pecans on top and it had a maple type of syrup dripping from it...I never had anything like it, but I have asked for the recipe...maybe I will post it when I get for all to enjoy...ok well, it's 8 pm..that means I have an hour or so til I go to bed...how old-ladyish....anyways, y'all bee good...xoxo

Turkey week!!!

Happy Freakin' Monday!!!! YUCK!!!! I had a great day with dad yesterday...GO PATS!!! That was a great game...and I was soo happy to give it to all the dolphins fans down here....DAD and i have decided to have Thanksgiving dinner @ home..he is gonna make a prime rib roast...mmm...ok so I have a question...we have an abbreviation for Christmas (X-mas)..which makes texting and writing easier..but why don't we have one for Thanksgiving?...turkey day is still so long...any suggestions?....how about T-day....T'ing....T'anks....gonna gain a ton day???...hee hee....undo your top pants button day....wear elastic waist pants day....puke to eat more day....I am sure Katie has a few good suggestions....how about ..Eat, sleep,Eat day????...anyways, I am still trying to finish writing my thesis but i'm somewhat unmotivated today....I start the new job in a week...can;t wait to be sleep deprived...lol....oh well, i guess i gotta grow up at some point in my life....enjoy ur turkey, gonna gain weight, undo your button day.

Tuesday, November 18, 2008

Well, here's the latest news from MIA....I actually got the job as a medical writer/editor..I am so psyched...especially since it was the first and only job i interviewed for...sadly, after sending out about 3o resumes, I only got 1 interview..luckily, it resulted in a job..woo hoo for me...I start on Dec 1...I am trying to finish writing my masters thesis by that time...I am getting excited about the holiday season coming up..although I don't know why because they ain't like they used to be..no big family dinners..no presents....no christmas lights (at least not at my house) and my dad does minimal decorations with the piece de resistance ..a ceramic xmas tree..lol...oh well, it marks the coming of the new year and I am excited about starting on a new chapter in my life...I will have thanksgiving dinner with Dad..we will either go out for prime rib or stay home and have a boiled dinner (at my request)..i know..it isn't really thanksgivingy to eat a boiled dinner but thanksgiving is just like any other day for us...and making a big turkey dinner is kinda a lot to do for 2 people...although usually once a year we do make a turkey dinner but we only roast a turkey breast ( no not the processed turkey crap)...holidays feel like just another day probably because Dad and I have a sunday dinner together every week....we have fun cooking together and watching football, baseball, or some old movie on tv...it's fun to be able to go HOME whenever I want to...Dad and I are alot alike and we have become alot closer in the last few years ...since I have moved to Florida..t's really cold here right now (63 degrees at night)..lol..I have been sleeping with my windows open..I am so happy that I can wear a sweatshirt for a few days a year..lmao...sorry that you are probably freezing your asses off in MA and NH....one great thing about it is that no matter how cold it gets here, the sun still shines all day...no dreary, cloudy days...well, all else is well in my little world....hope all is well in yours...happy turkey day everyone...don't eat tooooo much (yeah ok, likes that even possible)....

Bad Blogger

Ok, so I am a really bad blogger.....it's obviously been some time since I have posted...please forgive me....I will try to do better....anyways, here's the latest in my life.

I recently decided to leave school and take my master's degree instead of staying for a few more years ( 7 years in graduate school is enough for me)...time to move onto real life ( I can't stay a student forever--and I no longer want to.) I am in the process of writing my thesis and plan on graduating in Dec...hooray for me....accordingly, I have been on the job hunt...oh yeah fun, fun, fun...I have been applying for several types of jobs...science teacher, scientist, science writer...I got my first interview on thursday...it's a medical writer/editor job for a company that writes continuing education programs for physicians and nurses....the interview went great and I has to do a 2 hour skills test...i had to write an article on a topic of their choice, create a powerpoint presentation for the article and edit a 3 page document...i wasn't very confident about my skills test...however, I received an email on friday asking me to come in for a 2nd interview with president of the company...the company is run by a woman and the office consists of only 1 male...poor basterd...I am hoping being a woman gives me an edge..never thought that would be the case in the job place...

The family is all doing well....I still go visit my dad every sunday..we cook together...home cooked food (((mmmm) and of course, I get to do my laundry (for FREE!!!!)...my nephew nicholas recently had gastric bypass surgery..at his highest weight he was about 450 lbs...at 24 being that big really sux ( and I freak out about having to lose 20lbs)...anyways, a year later he is down to 240 lbs..and looks great...he recently visited and he looks awesome...he will soon have surgery to remove his excess skin and that will result in about a 25-30 additional weight losss....awsomer...I am so happy for him...he owns a tanning salon in danvers and his business is doing phenomenal....everyone else inthe family is status quo....

I am so excited to start the new year in a new phase of my life...I can't wait to be more settled and to be able to have more balance in my life....being a grad student requires all of your time..I hope to be able to get out and exercise more, blog more, draw more....but I suspect I will stay as lazy as ever...we will see..anyways, that's all I have for now...

Happy Birthday Mary.......P.S.. cchecked out your blog this morning and I think you still look the same as when you were in high school...you and billy both look good....

Rainy day Activities

It was raining something awful today....I just love watching the rain, although I am not sure why. I do know that I have always been fascinated by foul weather (lol...fowl weather...pic of a bird...hee hee ...i know I am gay) anyways, I remember when I lived on the beach in Revere, I would watch the storms come in from the Atlantic ocean....I recall going out in Hurricanes to check it out...there were always people out with their babies (which I never quite understood)..now that I have lived in Florida, I can appreciate the damage a real hurricane can cause...they are no joke down here....anyways, as I was looking out the window today, I noticed this bird sitting out the storm in the tree right outside my window...so I tried to draw it....it's my first bird...not too bad...I wonder if it really was the spirit of a loved one that is no longer alive...maybe my mom...I like to believe that she visits me through nature..whether it be a beautiful sunrise or a bird perched outside my window...Ok you can call the guys with the white coats now..lol...

She's CRAFTY!!!!!

As the Beasties say, SHE'S Crafty!!! I bet y'all didn't know I had the mad skills. I bought this "mail organizer" at IKEA...assembled it ( you know nailed, screwed andf so forth)...next I sanded the wood a bit...then I cut some bright and colorful paper to glue onto the drawer fronts...I like that I could individualize it ....I think it definitely adds some character....I got the idea for the addition of the paper from an decorating magazine....who knew I had the craft bug...see you don't have to have kids in order to play with glue and paper....It's the little things like doing this that makes me happy...it took me a little bit cuz I would put it together then set it asside for a few weeks...then sand it and put it aside for a few weeks...you can see where this is going...I am crafty but lazy....in the long run, it is the perfect solution to organize all of my bills, receipts and all the gatzies I had laying around....So onto the next project, although I have no idea what it will be....but I will keep y'all posted....lol.....see ya!!!!

Happy 4th

Happy Fourth Of July...ok 3rd of July....but happy day anyways....as we are about to celebrate another year of our great nation's freedom, there are a few questions I would like to ponder. Do the holidays such as this one still get you excited? I find for myself, they really have lost alot of the meaning since I became an adult. Maybe if I had kids of my own, I would still find joy in the festivities. Really, I see most holidays as just another day...even Christmas and New years. How sad!!! I think a large reason too for my loss of interest in Xmas has to do with the over-commercialization of the holiday....I recently saw Halloween decorations at a Michael's craft store...it's only July for Christ's sake. By the time halloween comes around the decorations and spooky sounds will have lost their character and only be seen as an annoyance. I suspect that I will see Xmas stuff available by late August if the halloween thing is any indication. "Jingle Bells" in August turns into fingernails on a chalkboard by December. Bah Humbug already....I can't wait to see my attitude in December..lol. Really, since Mom passed away, the holidays have lost a lot of their meaning. It's just the way things are....and that's ok. Everyone keeps asking," So what are you doing for the 4th?" I haven't a clue. I actually don't even care if I do anything. Last year, I made an attempt to see fireworks with a friend but we were too late getting to the beach and missed them. Kinda like taking a nap on New year's Eve and waking up at 12:01...it just sort of losses it's magic. Oh well....maybe my 4th will be better this year. Just please be careful if you are out on the roads. They say that the 4th is actually the most dangerous holiday for drunk drivers because people attend parties and drink all day and night. So stay close to home, don't light any fireworks that you are holding, and if you still have that child in you, cherish it. Enjoy everyone.

Sunday dinner

Yesterday I made my weekly journey up to Dad's house in West Palm Beach. He was in great spirits. As usual, I was exhausted and took a nap for an hour or so. He made a great pot roast for dinner. The meat melted in your mouth while the red potatoes were sooooo creamy and the carrots were...well, carrotty (lol)....of course I went home with leftovers as well as some watermelon. Oh yeah, he made a banana cream pie for desert....he even added real bananas to the banana pudding....too bad it ended up being more like banana soup pie.....for some reason, the pudding didn't set right...Dad said he was going to throw it out because it looked so bad...but when I mentioned that it still tasted good, he was quick to respond, "you're right!". Like food looking not so pretty ever stopped him from eating it. He was supposed to bring some of it to the priest at church but Dad decided it didn't look good enough for that. Poor Dad will just have to eat it all himself. I am pretty sure he already had a piece for breakfast this morning (I know him well). Anyways, I added a pic of dinner but, in hindsight, I should have gotten a picture of the pie. That would have been funny....after he cut 2 pieces out of the pie, the entire insides slid over and covered the whole pie tin....I think adding the bananas was the cause of the banana pudding avalanche....oh well, it really did taste good....

Another change

new font

I changed my font at pYzam.com

First pastel work

This is my version of a Picasso called "Three Women at the Spring"
...but a good friend of mine said it reminded him of JJ's paintings that were shown in the opening of Good Times. LOL. It is supposed to be grecian women...I don't think JJ painted those...

Why I Blog Questionnare
At the bottom of this entry I will tag three people, who should then tag three more people, and so on. You know the drill.

1. Why did you start a blog? My friend Mary introduced me to it....she also started this questionarre (so blame her for this).....

2. What did/do you hope to accomplish with your blogging? I hope to use my blog as a way to express myself and practive my writing. Even more important, I want to be able to stay in contact with friends and family.

3. Have you found that you don't post as much as you did when you started? SInce this is only my second post I don't really have an answer for this one. Although I have been checking out others' blogs to see how often they post. How do I know when I have something good to say?

4. If yes, why not? NA

5. How important are comments to you? I am finding that I love comments. It's kinda like getting mail. I have been checking my blog quite frequently to see if there are new comments posted.

6. Do you ever find yourself wishing people would not always leave comments that agree with you? Again, I am new...however, I am open to criticism as far as my artwork and poetry. As far as just plain old disagreeing with me...well, we'll see. Write a bad comment on my blog (if you dare) and we will see what my reaction is...lol.

7. Do you comment on other people's blogs a lot, sometimes, or very little? I only seem to comment on things I feel strongly about. I should probably comment more now that I have experienced how much I look forward to reading comments on my blog.

8. What determines why you don't post a comment on someone else's blog? Like I stated in the last question, if the post moves me, I post.

9. Do you have more than one blog? No.

10. Do you read random blogs either off of random blogger or friend's lists? Yes, I have checked out most of the blogs listed on Mary's blog in order to check out how the rest of the family has grown. I even checked out the Freebies for Mommies link and I don't have any children. Lately I have been checking out other blogs for info about things that interest me like science writing and art.

I now tag the following three bloggers: Ok well since the only people I know that blog are in Mary's family, I am going to have to tag them. Katie Betts-Levine, Kelsey Shaughnessy and Erin Lyle! Let's go!LOL!!

The Birth of the Blog

Well, here goes nothing. I never imagined myself as a "blogger", yet here I am writing my first post. Who'da thunk, huh? Anyways, I decided to start this blog in order to work on my writing skills as well as a way to keep in touch with the fam. I guess I should start from the beginning. I am currently a 6th year (yes, 6th year) graduate student at the University of Miami in the department of Molecular and Cellular Pharmacology. (I know it sounds like a big deal, but it isn't...it's just what I do.) I conduct prostate cancer research and I am hoping to done with my degree sometime in the near future. Additionally, I have recently started to explore new avenues of leisure time activities including drawing, writing and crocheting ( yes, crocheting!). I will definitely be posting some of my "Adventures in Drawing" works and any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Above is my first masterpiece in charcoal (whatcha think??) From time to time, I may also include some writing and , again, feedback is welcome. For the family, I will include weekly pics of Dad and me (and probably a pic of what we make for dinner just to make your mouth water...ha ha ha). Well, I hope you all enjoy my rantings ...if nothing else, I hope I can make you laugh from time to time. Check back soon for the next Adventure of JNBoogie....
